Theoretical weight from the nominal across-flats size and the indicative family density. Hex bar is specified and measured across flats (AF); the calculator also returns across corners (AC). Inputs can be entered in mm/m or in/ft — results are always shown in metric with the imperial equivalent.

Accuracy disclaimer: theoretical weights from nominal dimensions and indicative family densities. Actual pieces vary within manufacturing tolerances and the actual chemistry of the melt. Use results for estimation, freight planning and budgeting only — purchase and invoicing use the actual weighed figures and the EN 10204 mill test certificate for the lot.

How It Works

A regular hexagon measured across flats has area = √3/2 × AF² (mm²). Multiplied by density (kg/m³) and divided by 10⁶, that is kilograms per metre. The across-corners dimension — what spans the sharp points — is AC = 2/√3 × AF ≈ 1.1547 × AF, useful for checking whether stock fits a fixture or bar feeder.
